Instagram is facing a major disruption, leaving thousands of users unable to refresh their feeds or send messages. The outage began early Friday morning around 7 AM IST, when users began reporting issues with refreshing their feeds and sending direct messages. The issue seems to be persistent one as reports are resurfacing, with users worldwide taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to vent their frustration. As per Downdetector, which reports outages in real time, the troubles mounted in no time, with over 150 reports pouring every 30 minutes. The issue extended beyond users in India, alarming users in the U.S. and other countries.
As of this moment, around 72% of Instagram users have reported experiencing issues with the app, with 18% having problems logging in and 10% being unable to upload content. Meta, the parent company of Instagram, so far has failed to provide an official comment on this weekend’s ordeal.
Users have wasted no time in expressing their dissatisfaction. With much easier access to posts and memes on social networking platforms such as X, many poked fun at the situation while taking a dig at Facebook, Meta, and even Mark Zuckerberg. Although tech support for the app was unreachable, some members have devised quick fixes, such as uninstalling and reinstalling the app, with some users reporting this did work for them.
